This is our first little class that allows our youngest students to have time to play, socialize and do crafts with friends. Students can join this class starting at six months of age. Even this youngest class gets to enjoy our specials classes of Music, Spanish, Chapel or P.E. depending on the days they are scheduled to attend. You can choose either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. Class hours are 9:00 a.m. to 12:00. These classes have a maximum of 5 students to 2 teachers.
In these classes our students play, craft, sing, read and enjoy lots of hands-on learning. These classes have a maximum of 12 students per day and 2 teachers. Students can attend only two days until the month of their second birthday. Parents can choose at enrollment 2, 3, 4 or 5 days but once the days are chosen to attend, they are fixed. When applying, please let us know the days you would like your student to attend based on priority because days will fill. Once students turn 2 years old they can choose to stay for an additional hour of Friends at Play.
Threes offer learning at several different levels, from our youngest class that has just finished potty training and holding crayons for the 1st time to our young fours class. Students in fours just miss the cut off for Preschool with birthdays that fall just after September but are ready to learn to write letters, cut with scissors and walk independently in the hallways after getting comfortable with their school environment.
The Academy has a unique Pre-Kindergarten program set up students that are four by September 1st.
I want to clarify the difference in these classes before you begin registering your student for next fall. Three of the Pre-K classes have the same curriculum. Each class moves at a pace based on their individual classes needs.
The first Pre-K class (PKa) concentrates on one letter and one number saturating the week so that your student should be very familiar with those concepts by the end of the year. The second Pre-K class (PKb) class just goes a little quicker through the alphabet and numbers. This class is great for a student who know most of their letters and numbers but need to have more time reinforcing what they have learned. Both of these Pre-K classes offer four- or five-day schedules. On Fridays, they combine for a fun day of reinforcing what they have learned throughout the week. Our third Pre-K class (PKc) is for students that have already been to school, are a little more mature and would enjoy a more structured learning environment. PKc is a five-day class. These classes are from 9:00 until noon with the options of an additional hour of Friends at Play or Enrichment Classes that change monthly with new themes and learning. All these classes meet the needs of our students preparing for kindergarten.
Our fourth Pre-K class is Kindergarten Readiness (KR) is structured differently than the Pre- K classes. This class is for our older four year old students have the following skills:
KR has a completely different set of curriculum than our PreK classes, this curriculum will challenge them daily in their work. We do not want a child to be overwhelmed or frustrated by the academics presented to them so we welcome students who have either have been recommended by their teacher for placement or have taken the Brigance Assessment. KR shadows Kindergarten by following the same school hours 9:00 – 1:00 Monday – Thursday until the student turns 5 and then 9:00 – 2:00 with Friday hours 9:00 – noon with the options of an additional hour of Friends at Play or Enrichment Classes that change monthly with new themes and learning. KR is perfect for the student who is ready for a challenge and a longer school day.
Our Kindergarten is smaller than a normal Kindergarten class, so our teachers have more opportunities to work 1:1 with each student. Our Kindergarten teachers use many hands-on and interactive strategies to expose students to a wide variety of subjects in unique ways. ABC Boot Camp, Weird Science, theme days, technology and coding, music, movement, and role-play, are a few examples of fun and engaging ways we teach students the skills necessary to be set for success at the next level. Complete kindergarten standards (GSE) are covered in fewer days with shorter hours, yet students are given opportunities and challenges to work at their own pace to surpass grade level when/if they are ready. Students that require extra interventions can work at a slower pace with the extra support they need. If you ask any of our kindergarten parents, you will hear them say that they have never regretted the decision to place their student in our Kindergarten. Our students excel in elementary school due to the foundation set down by our Preschool and Kindergarten programs.
So why put your student in our Kindergarten?
A fun and creative learning environment, smaller class size, more Bible-based, more hands-on learning, and a shorter school day are just some of the benefits of The Academy Kindergarten.
